May, what a wonderful time of the year this is with wonderful forages, cheap cattle gains and babies running around with the mommas in hot pursuit, especially if you have a dog, which in this case may not be your best friend. Mine seems to want to hide behind me if a cow gets after her, which in turn gives me a warm fuzzy scary feeling, but so far so good.
May is the traditional month for working and branding spring-born calves, which means it is time to give the first black leg shot to the spring calves that were actually born in the middle of winter.
