Role of a Rodeo Queen: Miss North Texas Fair Ashlyn Williams

The role of a rodeo queen is not for the faint of heart. Upon receiving the coveted title, a queen must serve as an ambassador to the sport of rodeo, be a role model for all who look up to her, and exude a passion for the agricultural industry.
Reigning Miss Rodeo North Texas Fair Ashlyn Williams makes it all look easy as the embodiment of a leader who actively works to keep the Western industry alive and thriving. With rodeo royalty in her blood, she has walked a path filled with her family’s Western values that have served her well as the current queen.
From the Beginning
The 22-year-old was born and raised in a rodeo family in Boyd, Texas. She is the daughter of Jim and Kim Welch, with a twin brother, Colton.
“I fell in love with horses very quickly. I spent summers on the back of a horse riding until I was told to get off,” Williams laughed.
Her love for animals and agriculture continued to grow in high school when she joined FFA. Through the FFA, she was able to put her passion to use by competing in events such as radio broadcasting, creed speaking, and horse judging.

A friend and I were recently talking about our husbands. She made a comment that I felt also perfectly described me and my hubby.
“He slows me and I hurry him. I’m sure that is why we do well together,” she said.
“Precisely!” I thought. Why?
Because when two different worlds collide, it can be magical.
No matter what those two different worlds are- a man and a woman with very different personalities, beliefs, or backgrounds, two partners with contrasting passions, strengths, or talents, or when a country boy marries a city girl.

Watauga, Texas, a suburb of Fort Worth, is known for its rich history as a railroad stop, but over the course of the last year, one teen girl has put it on the map for agriculture as well. Emma Harvey has lived in Tarrant County her entire life. Despite being highly involved in her local 4-H chapter, she still felt there was more she could do. In the spring of 2023, she stepped up to the plate to take over the title of Tarrant County Teen Miss Agriculture USA.
“It all started when I put in an application for the teen title here in Tarrant County,” explained Harvey.
The Miss Agriculture USA program is a national non-profit, age-inclusive pageant program that offers both competition and non-competition titles to women dedicated to the promotion of agriculture.

A delicate balance of hard work and nature’s ever-present influence. Even though there are a handful of skilled men working a set of pens, there is always a brave calf to cause a bit of a ruckus. Carefully con- veyed to the ground, the calf gets worked and set off to on a journey of growth. Cowboys understand that the dealings of unpredictable nature such as this young calf is part of the journey. Prowling the pastures for green grasses and hay so sweet, the calf is released back into the pastures, able to roam and be drawn to the nutritious offerings of the land.
