The American- The Winners

By contributing writer Judy Wade
RFD TV’s The American presented by Polaris, the richest one-day rodeo in history, has come and gone. Over $2 million in money and prizes was presented to the winners. Texas cowboys and cowgirls took home over $1,475,000 plus the prizes. In case there is anyone out there who did not see the rodeo, at AT&T Stadium or on TV, here are the winners and their prizes.
The biggest win went to Richmond Champion, 21 year-old college student from The Woodlands, Texas. He pocketed $100,000 for winning the bareback riding and a cool $1,000,000 for being the only contestant who won an event by coming up through the qualifying rounds. “What’s a 21 year old do with a million dollars?” was his question when interviewed by Leah Garcia.
Each event winner received $100,000, a Polaris Ranger, a Cactus saddle, a Browning Shotgun, and a custom-designed buckle, and all contestants received a 100X Resistol hat. Second place in each event received $25,000. To read more pick up the April 2014 issue of North Texas Farm & Ranch.
