Saint Jo’s July 4th Celebration
Held Annually at Boggess Park

July 4th – Fourth of July Celebration and Old Jo’s Firecracker 5K Run. The City of Saint Jo, the Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce and the Saint Jo Volunteer Fire Department will once again sponsor a July 4th  Fireworks show at Boggess City Park, beginning at full dark, around 9:00p.m.  Live music, free watermelon and a concession stand begin at 6:00pm. The Old Jo’s Firecracker 5K Run will begin at 8:00 a.m.  Please to to www.oldjosfirecracker5k.com for information. The Saint Jo Youth League will be sponsoring a 3 on 3 sand volleyball tournament, horseshoe pitching, 3 on 3 basketball tournament, and a coed softball tournament.  You may sign up for any of these events at The Gas Station in Saint Jo, or by calling John Jones at 940-230-5981 or Christy Bennett at 940-284-5850.  A patriotic children’s parade will begin at 7 p.m.  The parade will go from the town’s square up Howell Street to the First National Bank pavilion in Boggess Park.  Prizes will be awarded for the best patriotic costume and float. Contact Mindy Hobbs for more info at 940-531-8716.  Games for children will begin at the park following the parade. Pre-show entertainment will also start at 6:00pm with live music by Quick Draw.  The Chamber of Commerce will continue its tradition of free watermelon which will be served by the Montague County Child Welfare Board.  The concession stand will have hot dogs, hamburgers and other refreshments for purchase. The Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the thirteenth annual July 4th Freeze-Off at 7:30pm.  Teams are invited to prepare homemade ice cream.  The winners are chosen by popular vote and independent judges after tasting all the ice cream.  The Freeze-Off grand prize of $150, second place award of $100 and third place award of $50 will be awarded to the Montague County non-profit youth group of the winning team’s choice. Take a trip back to yesteryear at the Parker County Peach Festival, held in Historic Downtown Weatherford, Saturday, July 9th, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 2016 marks the 32nd annual Peach Festival which always takes place on the second Saturday in July. Admission is only $5 for adults and FREE for children 12 and under.
