Horse Power: Meet the Equine Athletes That Carried Their Riders to This Year’s WNFR

The name “Sister” has become synonymous with the sport of barrel racing. From Hailey Kinsel’s world champion mare DM Sissy Hayday to Nellie Miller’s Rafter W Minnie Reba the name comes with several American Quarter Horse Association’s Horse of the Year accolades for professional rodeo. Say the name Sister, and fans are liable to take notice, but this year the AQHA horse of the year had a different barn name, Rollo.

Famous Lil Jet, owned and ridden by Jordan Briggs, has been named the 2021 AQHA Horse of the Year. The top 15 barrel racers vote on this award, and the 2014 gelding deserved it. He carried Briggs to the number two spot in the standings going into the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, behind none other than 2018 Horse of the Year, Sister and Kinsel.
