Hello Texas music Fans! This month I write to you with a heavy heart as we say goodbye to a great friend of mine and even greater friend to Texas Music.
Barbara Martin moved to Texas about 20 years ago. She wanted to get away from the smog and shallow people who make up the land of “Fruits and Nuts,” other wise know as “California.” She loved Western Swing and Texas Music. So much so that she made it her way of life. Not as a singer, dancer or picker but as a writer. Not a writer of songs or country hits but a writer of a full-fledged fan!
If you ask me, Barbara Martin was the biggest fan of Western Swing and Texas country music of anyone I’ve ever known. Single-handedly she created a rag that would become the standard of Western Swing Music, not just in Texas but the entire nation, The Western Swing Monthly.
