Of all the honors a four-legged creature can receive, becoming Horse of the Year is among the highest of them. This honor was recently rewarded to an offspring of the $17 million producing “Metallic Cat,” “Metallic Rebel.”

Having been a product of one of the top producing stallions in the industry and out of the mare “Sweet Abra” (LTE: $117,724 according to, one could figure that “Metallic Rebel” was destined for greatness.

The young stallion currently has lifetime earnings approaching $450,000, and is only a 2012 model. Owners, Tom and Lisa Guinn, have much to look forward to in the years to come, but they aren’t the only ones. There are many cutting horse breeders who are currently anxiously awaiting the arrival of a foal by “Metallic Rebel.” In 2018 the first crop of Rebel babies will hit the market. Those who bred to “Metallic Rebel” last year were in for a pleasant surprise upon his being awarded Horse of the Year, increasing the eagerness for their 2018 foals to arrive.

Having come from generations of what some may call cutting horse royalty, “Metallic Rebel” began his journey as an official sire in 2017. Thus far, 328 mares are carrying “Metallic Rebel” foals for the 2018 crop year. What’s more, Tom and Lisa Guinn have been more than generous in their ownership of “Metallic Rebel.”
