“Training through understanding” are the words Phil Haugen lives by. The professional horseman and clinician has built his training program around a solid foundation of teaching horse and rider to reach their full potential. With 30 years of training horses under his belt, Haugen has had proven success training horses for multiple disciplines.
Haugen originally hails from North Dakota and has a rodeo background. He competed in calf roping, team roping and saddle bronc riding, winning the Linderman Award in 1989 for his efforts. He also has qualifications to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Badlands Circuit Finals and the PRCA Prairie Circuit Finals on his résumé.
Haugen bases his training program around trust and respect. He develops the horse’s mind and body to be confident and believes effective communication improves the rider’s relationship with the equine animal. Haugen’s solid foundation of good horsemanship results in both horse and rider reaching their full potential.
He offers expert colt starting, private riding lessons, horsemanship clinics, and has more than $1,000,000 in Equistat earnings by the horses that have been a part of his program. Haugen can be found in many magazines and videos, providing helpful tips to get the most out of an equine partner. His horses are user friendly, with a great handle and plenty of athletic ability.
