Cowboy Cuisine with Steve Stevens

One time and one time only there was a perfectly scored bull ride. Wade Leslie scored 100 points on Wolfman’s Skoal in 1991. There was a lot of speculation if this was truly a perfect bull ride, but none the less it is in the record books forever.

Well, I am here to tell you I may have found the 100 point world’s best taco. I know what you are saying, the guy has written three food columns and he is already claiming to find the perfect taco. Well, as a matter of fact, I am. Growing up in Southern California and the Southwest I have had the amazing opportunity of being around some of the best Mexican food. Everything from growing up eating out of taco stands a few times a year with my Dad on weekend trips to Tijuana, to going to Acuna while I was rodeoing for Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde.

I have had Southwest, Tex Mex, Yucatan and everything in-between. So when you have the time to take the trip to the little one stoplight town of Godley, Texas, on Highway 171 between the town of Cresson and Cleburne, go order the brisket taco. Seems lately these days Texas is becoming the envy of musicians from around the world.
With the overwhelming response to “Yellowstone,” the television series, Texas once again finds itself under the microscope of the world, much like the late 1980’s TV series know to all around the globe as “Dallas.”

With that said, the musician population in Texas is beginning to grow as many aspiring performers turn their sights on Texas instead of Nashville. Meet my newly-found friend and fellow musician Grace Partridge. This youthful 19 year old has recently made Texas her new home. She began fiddling at age four in Rigby, Idaho. Grace worked her way through the National Fiddle championships in Weiser, Idaho, becoming a five-time national champion. She’s even played on the Grand Ole Opry. Still yet, her desire to become a true Texas Fiddler has brought her to the Lone Star State. I’m pretty sure we can thank Bob Wills for that.
